SimpliSafe provides home security systems to hundreds of thousands of households across the United States. Their Innovation Lab conceived a Pre-Crime Detection Service that uses AI and facial recognition to identify potential intruders before a break-in occurs, moving security from reactive alarms to proactive prevention. SimpliSafe needed a partner to turn the concept into a production-ready product across mobile and web platforms.

Built the product strategy for the Pre-Crime Detection Service across iOS, Android, and web apps.
Designed patented UI/UX for the mobile app, Live Guard Agent portal, and QA portal.
Ran pre-launch usability testing and post-launch interviews with 300 beta customers.
Advised SimpliSafe's Innovation Lab through post-launch interviews and product iteration to refine the service.

Turning a proof of concept into a production-ready product required balancing speed, user experience, and regulatory compliance.
SimpliSafe needed to design and architect the Pre-Crime Service as a separate app from the main SimpliSafe app, allowing them to validate the market and move quickly while maintaining the eventual goal of merging the two apps together.

NineTwoThree focused on developing onboarding processes, in-app tutorials, and a clear UI/UX to convey the benefits of the Pre-Crime Service to current and prospective customers. The design had to communicate how Live Guard Agents monitoring works and set clear expectations for the homeowner experience.

Operating in a highly regulated industry required adherence to strict guidelines and protocols. The teams worked closely to ensure compliance with regulatory standards related to AI face detection, storage, and handling of PII while delivering the security solution.

The team worked alongside SimpliSafe's Innovation Lab through in-person sessions, iterative design rounds, and usability testing to build a production-ready product.
The team organized the early proof of concept app into an updated user flow through in-person multi-day sessions, creating a detailed plan and identifying sections that needed design iteration rounds.

Created the Pre-Crime Service logo, icons, and visual elements after conducting market research to build strategically differentiated branding, considering competitor apps and SimpliSafe brand guidelines.

Used the "show, don't tell" design principle with in-app tooltips, action triggers, and empty states. Created clickable prototypes and recruited SimpliSafe customers for usability testing to validate onboarding and overall design.
